Amazon automatically provides updates to your Firestick. They update the software to update their embedded apps as well as provide updates to Firestick Security, Sometimes they may send an update that you may not want. Future plans include updates to limit the functionality of 3rd party apps that you may have installed and use on a regular basis. To limit the ability of automatic updates that you are unaware of, and their impact, you can install an app that can block future updates and allow you to keep your current setup the way it is now. If you want to maintain your current Firestick settings, follow the following steps to block updates.

Launch Downloader

Hover over the URL and hit select/ok to open the keyboard

Enter the Netguard downloader code 730116 and click go

Scroll down to “Utility Apps” and click on Netguard

The installation will start.

Click Install

When the installation is finished click Done

Select delete to free up space on the firestick

Select delete again to confirm

Go to your firestick home screen and go to your Apps Library which is just to the left of the settings. Click on it, go into my apps and select the “Netguard” App

Click Agree

Click the 3 dots in the very top right hand corner

Choose Settings

Go down and select Advanced Options.

Toggle on Manage System Apps

Go back to the Netguard home screen. Scroll down to DeviceSoftwareOTA.  Disable both the Wi-fi and Data icons.

Now scroll down some more to System Update. Disable both the Wi-Fi and Data icons. If they are already disabled leave them that way.

Scroll all the way back up and click on the “Toggle” button in the top left corner.

Click OK

You can see that the Toggle Button is turned on. Installation is complete and you can go back to the Firestick home screen

You can now check to make sure Netguard is active. From the Firestick home screen you can go to the Firestick settings/My Fire TV/About/Check for updates.  If you try and Install update or Check for Updates you should get an error message. That means Netguard is active and you will not receive any operating updates on your Firestick. While your Firestick is now safe from any unwanted updates please note that you will also not receive any updates for new features or security fixes.
